Perimenopause in Women with ADHD
EXPERT: Patricia O. Quinn, MD
You probably thought perimenopause was light years away. You’re in your late 30s or 40s, after all. Why worry about this now? Except that you’ve started to notice a few changes. Your periods have become irregular. Sleep is more elusive. Could fluctuating hormone levels be causing those mood swings you’re now experiencing and intensifying your ADHD symptoms?
When estrogen, dopamine, and serotonin drop, a woman’s focus, sleep, and mood — which had been propped up by these hormones — also crash. These shifts give way to brain fog and cognitive issues that accompany perimenopause.
In this presentation, we will talk about the hormonal shifts that take place well before perimenopause and menopause, how to recognize whether you are in perimenopause, and how perimenopause specifically affects a woman with ADHD. Most importantly, we’ll discuss what you can do, from hormonal stabilization to lifestyle changes and medications, to ease perimenopause symptoms.
In this webinar, you will learn:
- How the brain is a target organ during perimenopause
- How declining estrogen levels affect ADHD, mood, sleep, memory, and cognition
- How to determine if you are entering perimenopause
- Strategies for stabilizing hormone levels
- Methods to improve your quality of life during this stage
