Building Better Writers

EXPERT: Angela Stockman

Drawing upon the work from her books and practice, Angela will introduce projects that have multiple modes of communicating a message and some frameworks, tools, and resources that will enable teachers to support their students. Participation in this learning opportunity will enable teachers to assess young writers by relying on pedagogical documentation to inform their teaching practice.

Participants will:

• define the varied modes of expression and explain how multimodality is essential to producing high-quality print.
• prototype a mini-unit plan to support a multimodal process and/or the development of multimodal products in their own classrooms including documentation of student learning, assessment and reporting tools.
