How do I Start Phonics Intervention?

February 6 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm MST

EXPERT: Dr. Deborah Karrah

Many administrators and learning support teachers have recently begun offering reading intervention programs for struggling readers. In this series, Dr. Deborah Karrah will offer a sound basis for beginning a phonological and phonics-based intervention program for your students. During the first session, Dr. Karrah will provide a background for administrators and learning support teachers who are new to teaching struggling readers. The second session will include a concrete structure for the teaching sessions.

  • assessment – identifying the gaps in phonological awareness and phonics (2 key skills for reading success);
  • developing an individualized intervention Scope and Sequence Plan;
  • the importance of a multi-sensory intervention lesson.

Session II: Reading Intervention Support – What does an intervention lesson look like?

Content will include:

  • multi-sensory intervention lesson structure;
  • differentiating lessons for younger and older students;
